Family Activities Program Team

Family of the Month

Mike Clemens

Council Officers and Program Chairmen are encouraged to conduct discussions with the Pastor for selecting the Family of the Month.  Grand Knights and Council leaders are encouraged to expand the Family of the Month program to include all Parish families. Family of the Month selection should be based on what the perspective nominee does Parish activities. Consideration should be given on how the selected family exemplifies the New Evangelization.

Family of the Month nominations can be made online.  Council Family Program Chairmen are encouraged to contact Mike if you need any assistance.

Mary Gold

David Love

Mary Gold honors the mothers of our Parishes each Mothers Day by presenting them with a marigold flower symbolic of their gift of life.  The program has grown from its origination by two Carroll County Councils (Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen and Westminster) to a statewide activity.  State Council will gladly provide help to Councils who want to join in on Mary Gold.

Employment and Career Assistance

Howard Johnson

This program provides information regarding state employment services, writing resumes and provides information regarding job opportunities. The program provides free employment service to our members. When a member is unemployed, he needs our collective help through a critical period in his life.  Additionally, we also want to assist Brothers who are seeking upward mobility or even, in the case of Military Veterans, a career change.  Records are maintained on jobs throughout the state and surrounding areas. With more than 27,000 members in Maryland this is a great fraternal network.

Maryland State Picnic

Matt O'Hare

The State Picnic is an excellent opportunity for Knights, wives and children from across the state to enjoy a day of food, beverages, swimming and fellowship, celebrating the end of summer.  The picnic will take place at Prince George's Council in College Park on Saturday, 20 August.  Please consider joining Maryland families for a day of fun and hopefully, sun.  FLYER

Widows Programs

Dick Bissell

Kendra Hunt

A Knight of Columbus has no more binding obligation than the care of a widow of a departed Brother.  Our Insurance Program is the basis for financial assistance, but Councils should continue to offer social and spiritual assistance to the widows.  We should do our best to keep the widows involved with our Council activities, however State Council can offer statewide or even regional coordination of activities of interest to the ladies.  This includes working with the Church Program to get them to the State Memorial Mass.

Your council must be prepared to assist in any way it can. It is essential that we, as Knights of Columbus, never forget the contributions of each of our members has made to the Order.  Dick and Kendra are prepared to discuss the "Widows VIP Cards" project with Grand Knights and Chancellors.
